Map of Elsweyr

Where is Elsweyr?

Elsweyr lies in the south of Tamriel, between Valenwood and Black Marsh, with Cyrodiil to the north. It is the homeland of the Khajiit, a feline people whose many forms are tied to the phases of the two moons, Masser and Secunda.

Geography

The north, once the kingdom of Anequina, is a land of arid badlands, canyons and savannah around cities such as Rimmen, Riverhold and Dune. The south, once Pelletine, is wetter and greener, with jungles and the coastal cities of Torval and Senchal on Topal Bay.

Sugar cane grows in the south. It is the source of moon sugar, which is sacred to the Khajiit and can be refined into the narcotic skooma.

History

Elsweyr was formed in the Second Era when the kingdoms of Anequina and Pelletine united. In the era of The Elder Scrolls Online the province is a member of the Aldmeri Dominion.

In the Fourth Era the moons vanished for two years during the Void Nights. The Thalmor claimed credit for their return, and Elsweyr became a client state of the new Aldmeri Dominion.

Elsweyr in the games

Arena includes Elsweyr's cities. The Elder Scrolls Online covers Reaper's March on the Valenwood border, and Northern and Southern Elsweyr, added in the 2019 Elsweyr chapter and its follow-up, Dragonhold.
